The purpose of this book is not to glorify the brutality of the past, but to face truth and learn how trusting in Christ Jesus brought a people through the harshest of life's circumstances. Trusting in Him today can do the same. Ignoring truth has consequences that can prove to be just another form of slavery. Jesus our Savior said, 'you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.' He did not say if the conditions of truth are agreeable and pleasant that you will be free, because it will not always be so. When a people understand the commonality of suffering, especially black people, the likelihood that empathy for one another will also be a common way of life. All citizens of this nation should be enlightened through our systems of education, that the United States enslaved it's own citizens. The United States, though a young nation, was the last major civilization that reluctantly freed it's slaves. Truth must be in order, for healing of the entire nation to be realized. If one segment of this nation is not free, no segment is free. If one segment of a nation is in need of healing, the whole nation is ill, and in need of the same. The healing of America and overcoming racism as a people with diverse origins, will come through true forgiveness. Only then can it as a nation share in a common God given destiny, for His glory.
